Here are a few scoops of this week from around the world 👇

As a young professional, I spent my early 20s trying to pave my way to success. I now realize that personal development is the key to building a foundation for success early in our careers or entrepreneurial aspirations. Today, I am sharing my own journey to underscore the importance of personal development in one's 20s which I hope will inspire you to take action on your personal development game sooner rather than later.

In my early 20s, I dabbled in various business ideas, from starting a design agency, to day trading stocks, and freelancing. While these ventures may not have been successful in the traditional sense, each experience taught me invaluable lessons and honed my skills for life. Embrace failure and the process of improvement! This iterative process of trial and error laid the groundwork for my current role as a designer and consultant in big tech which has also opened the doors to so many future opportunities in both my career and entrepreneurial paths. Every job or business you go into will require you to solve problems, and when you fail at solving those problems, you must know how to navigate the chaos surrounding that, get good at this and you can succeed in almost anything.

One area of personal development that has been particularly transformative for me is developing skills in sales. By honing my sales techniques over many years early on, I discovered how to break free from the limiters that were inhibiting my communication abilities and eventually allowed me to channel charisma that has allowed me to ace interviews, stay adaptive under pressure, and kickstart my networking efforts to discover and seize new opportunities. This powerful skill set has been instrumental in increasing my income every year.

As I navigated the ups and downs of my entrepreneurial journey, I stumbled upon a mental framework that I borrowed from Terry Silver when I saw Karate Kid Part III: The 3 D's (Desire, Devotion, Discipline). Beyond it’s obvious lessons for karate and martial arts practitioners, this simple yet powerful framework has helped me visualize my career goals, develop strategies for achieving them, and persevere even when the world seemed to be crashing around me by acting as a North Star for my inner values and helps remind me of why I am doing what I do and why I will continue to do so going forward.

  1. Desire
Success begins with a burning desire to achieve a particular goal. Whether it's growing your business, climbing the corporate ladder, or mastering a new skill, having a clear vision of what you want is crucial. In my case, my desire for success fueled my willingness to explore various career paths and entrepreneurial ventures.

  2. Devotion
Once you have identified your desires, it's essential to devote time and energy to make them a reality. This means being consistent in your efforts, even when faced with setbacks and obstacles. My devotion to personal development and skill-building allowed me to pivot and adapt in the face of failure, ultimately leading to my current success.

  3. Discipline
Discipline is the glue that binds desire and devotion together. It's about developing the mental and emotional fortitude to stay the course, even when things get tough. By cultivating discipline, I was able to persevere through failures and setbacks, eventually finding my way to a place of relative success in my career.

Investing in personal development during your 20s can set the stage for success in your career or entrepreneurial endeavors. By focusing on skill-building, being open to new experiences, and following a mental framework like The 3 D's, you can transform failures into learning opportunities and pave the way for a successful future sooner rather than later. I implore you to embrace the journey that you are destined for and unleash the inner potential that lays dormant within you!
